On Saturday, over 1700 children and spouses who have lost a parent in the war on terror and their surviving guardians will make their way to Dallas/Fort Worth for an unforgettable 5-day, 4-night trip. The children will get to meet and bond with others who have similar experiences, celebrate and remember their parent, and get once-in-a-lifetime experiences as America says thank you for their sacrifice. Snowball Express is the organization that makes it all possible.
For the second year in a row, the Martin Plowman Celebrity Kart Race will fund Indiana children to attend the annual Snowball Express event. The fundraiser is held annually in May at Fastimes Indoor Karting and sponsored generously by Northwestern Mutual – Wise Financial and the Colts Grille.
Professional racing driver Martin Plowman and his fiancée Nicole Pollard are spokespersons for Snowball Express and this will be their fifth trip to the Snowball Express event in Dallas to show support for the children of our fallen military heroes.
“We first got involved in 2011 during my IndyCar debut,” said Plowman. “[Executive Director] Buck Kern met with us and told us the stories of the families of Snowball. Once we met them at my races, the partnership was a no-brainer. We love going back to Dallas/Fort Worth each year to see our friends from Snowball and check in on their lives and to meet new Snowball families and make those connections.”
Plowman raced with the Snowball Express livery on his IndyCar in the 2011 season and continues to incorporate the logo. During each of his United States-based races, he and his team host local Snowball families at smaller, more intimate Snowflake events. In 2014, Pollard suggested a fundraiser with the goal of funding each Indiana Snowball kid.
Pollard said, “Both Martin and I wanted a way to make a financial difference for our local Snowball families. The idea of the kart race was born through our ties to the Indianapolis 500 and Martin’s passion for racing. We have been so blessed to have the support of Fastimes, Northwestern Mutual – Wise Financial, the Colts Grille, Core Pilates and Fitness, the Indianapolis media, and celebrities like Matt Overton, Dwayne Allen, Arie Luyendyk, Jr., and Jack Hawksworth.”
This year, the event raised $13,500.78, which will send 27 Indiana children to Snowball Express. Combined, the events raised $26,410.30. The third annual event is in the works for May 2016.
