Martin Plowman hosted his first annual Martin Plowman Celebrity Kart Race benefitting Snowball Express presented by Northwestern Mutual – Wise Financial on Wednesday night at Fastimes Indoor Karting in Indianapolis. The event raised $6,454.76, which will be doubled to $12,909.52 through the Highland Capital $1,000,000 Pay It Forward Challenge. For every dollar raised for Snowball Express through Memorial Day, Highland Capital will match that donation up to one million dollars. After in-kind donations, it costs roughly $500 to send a child to the annual Snowball Express event in Dallas/Fort Worth, meaning the Martin Plowman Celebrity Kart Race will fund 25 kids’ trips.
The evening was a night of fun, competitiveness, and compassion. A short presentation about the Snowball Express charity from Martin and his fiancé Nicole kicked off the evening. Guests heard the stories of Autumn Letendre and her son Dillon, wife and son of Captain Brian Letendre, how Snowball Express had helped their family. The event was catered to VIP drivers by Ruth’s Chris Northside Indianapolis.
Celebrities and VIP drivers were grouped together on teams and the trash talk began immediately. Colts players Pat McAfee, Dwayne Allen, and Matt Overton got the crowd riled up before suiting up for the event. The three of them were joined on track by Ryan Baker and Anthony Heygood of the NFL; IndyCar rookie Jack Hawksworth; IndyLights driver Jack Harvey; racing driver, legacy, and Bachelorette star Arie Luyendyk, Jr.; Miss Indiana USA Mekayla Diehl; Colts Cheerleaders Erin and Cassia; Leslie Bailey, Indianapolis Star “Adventuress;” Rachel Bogle from Mornings with Kyle and Rachel on RadioNow 100.9; and 500 Festival Princesses Liz Mertz, Emily Nickels, and Lindsay Lausten. Other celebrities in attendance include IndyCar legend Arie Luyendyk, IndyCar driver Takuma Sato, and two-time Olympian Wallace Spearman, Jr.
At the conclusion of the event, the drivers celebrated on the podium. In third place was the team consisting of Jack Harvey, Colts Cheerleader Erin, Michael Corby, Bart Fisher, and Andrew Schnieders. Second place was captured by Arie Luyendyk, Jr., 500 Festival Princess Emily Nickels, Kyle Falk, Cate McLaughlin, and Corey Waller. Luyendyk joked of his eternal second-place finishes, referring to his runner-up finish on the Bachelorette. Team Alfe finished in first place with drivers Martin Plowman, Colts Cheerleader Cassia, Matthew Gruenholz, Kurt Westman of Alfe Heat Treating, and Ryan Westman of Alfe Racing.
The true champions of the evening were the two Snowball families in attendance – Autumn Letendre and her son Dillon, and Leanne Champan and her children Taylor and Hunter – and the 25 children the Kart Race will be sending to Snowball Express in December.
