Fresh off of the long summer break in the 2012 American Le Mans Series schedule, Conquest Endurance is set to take to the track once more in the Northeast Grand Prix at Lime Rock Park this weekend. The team used their time off the track to make improvements to the car in order to increase overall performance, and they ran an entry in the Indianapolis 500 with Ana Beatriz at the wheel.
Martin Plowman, driver of the Conquest Endurance car, spent his time off track making community appearances, spotting for IZOD IndyCar drivers Ana Beatriz and Marco Andretti, and getting himself in top physical form at the gym. He spent hours training at St. Vincent Sports Performance, using his time in between the races to improve his physical form and get set for the intense schedule of long endurance races the rest of the ALMS season holds. For the Indianapolis 500, he was the turn 1 spotter for Conquest Endurance’s Ana Beatriz, and traveled to Texas Motor Speedway to spot for Andretti Autosport’s Marco Andretti. You could also see Martin around the Indianapolis community – at a fundraiser in Broad Ripple for the Ryan Baker Foundation, judging the Central Indiana Region Porsche Car Club Show in Zionsville, and out at Stout Army Air Field with a Conquest show car to raise awareness for Snowball Express.
Martin will continue his community service this weekend with an appearance at Connecticut Children’s Medical Center with the Austin Hatcher Foundation before the on-track activity begins on Friday. It will be his first time on the Lime Rock track. He and teammate David Heinemeier Hansson look to close the gap on the championship. They are currently in second place in the P2 class, only 15 points behind first place’s Level 5 Motorsports.
Martin Plowman, driver: This will be my first time at Lime Rock, although I have seen it on iRacing before. I’m anxious to get back out there on track. The summer break was very long for me, although I kept myself very busy with some jobs outside of the cockpit, most notably as a spotter in the IZOD Indycar Series at the Indy 500 for Ana Beatriz and at Texas for Marco Andretti. It was fun to experience an important role outside of the car, but made me even more eager to get back to business in the ALMS. My team have been able to work on some things that needed improving and I’m confident that we should see a step up in our overall performance as team on track and throughout the organization. Fighting for the championship has got to be our goal this year and to do that we recognize we need to win races. Level 5 will be very tough to beat, but we are coming very determined at Lime Rock.
